Hallandale Beach is where Miami-Dade driving becomes Broward driving
Hallandale Beach is the southern edge of Broward County. Cross the line and you are in Golden Beach and Sunny Isles Beach, or, a little inland, in Aventura. The 2020 Census counted 41,217 residents. The 2020–2024 estimates are about 41,900, on about 4.2 square miles. The average commute is about 30 minutes, and about one in four workers who drive to a job is on the road 45 minutes or more. People here are not only going to the beach. They are going to Miami-Dade in the morning and coming back on the same boulevard at night.
Three roads do most of the work. Hallandale Beach Boulevard (SR 858) runs east–west from I-95 to the ocean and crosses the Intracoastal. A1A is the beach road, continuous with Collins Avenue once you are south of Golden Beach. US-1 (Federal Highway) carries the local north–south traffic west of the waterway, with I-95 another step west. Event traffic stacks up where the boulevard meets US-1, beside the Gulfstream Park complex. A policy does not care which side of the county line the crash is on. The police report and the garaging ZIP do.
About 52% of residents were born abroad. Census table C16001 counts Russian, Polish and other Slavic languages together: about 4,800 people age 5 and older, roughly 12.3% of that group. That is the largest count of the four cities on this coast in the same table, and the second-highest share. It is not a count of Russian by itself. It is a city where a household car is often driven by someone whose license was not issued in Florida.
Coverage gaps we check for Hallandale Beach drivers
- Bodily injury liability. Not required for most Florida drivers, and easy to leave off when the last policy was written in another state.
- Uninsured motorist coverage at the BI limits, including a search for a rejection signed years ago.
- The garaging ZIP. Hallandale Beach, Aventura and Sunny Isles Beach rate differently. The car belongs where it is kept overnight.
- Comprehensive for cars in beach lots, under towers and in open parking by US-1: water, theft, hail and wind debris.
- Collision for boulevard rear-end crashes, with a deductible you can actually pay.
- Drivers who cross the county line for work and any use that is delivery or rideshare rather than a commute.
- Every licensed resident, including a relative on a foreign license who has started to live here.
- Medical payments coverage, because PIP pays 80% of medical bills.
- Rental reimbursement if the boulevard is your commute and the car will be in a shop in another city.

Broward does not have a different auto law from Miami-Dade. A registered car needs $10,000 of PIP and $10,000 of property damage liability, continuous. PIP is no-fault coverage of your own injuries: 80% of reasonable medical costs and 60% of lost income, and it generally follows you and resident relatives as pedestrians. The 14-day rule for the first treatment, and the $2,500 cap unless a doctor finds an emergency medical condition, apply on Hallandale Beach Boulevard the same way they apply on Collins. Bills to repeal PIP failed in committee in March 2026.
Bodily injury liability is still optional for most drivers. About 20.6% of Florida drivers were uninsured in the Insurance Research Council’s 2023 estimate. UM pays your injuries above PIP in that crash, but only if you have BI and you did not reject UM in writing. Insurers must offer UM at the BI limits. Stacking matters when the household has more than one car. From March 24, 2023, more than 50% of fault for your own injuries generally means no recovery from the other driver, and the deadline for most negligence lawsuits is two years. A crash with injuries, a death or at least $2,000 of apparent damage has to be reported to the local police or the Florida Highway Patrol.
A license from another country, a car registered here
Visitors may drive with a valid license from their home country. The Florida handbook describes the non-resident set of papers as that license plus an International Driving Permit, which is a translation, not a license. Use it when the license is not in English. You have 30 days to get a Florida license after you become a resident: a job, a child in public school, voter registration, a homestead filing, or more than six months here in a row. Titling the car takes Florida insurance, generally within 10 days of residency. Whether an underwriter accepts the foreign license is not something this page can promise. Send the license and the declarations. We will tell you what we can do.
Wind on the beach side, water in low parking
Hurricane Wilma in October 2005 put Category 2 conditions, in the National Hurricane Center’s judgment, on parts of Broward, with gusts near 100 knots at the standard 10-meter height and stronger wind on upper floors. Hallandale’s beach is a barrier-island strip. The rest of the city is west of the Intracoastal, lower and full of parking lots. Comprehensive is what pays for a flooded car, a broken windshield from debris, or theft from a lot. It has to be in force before a storm is close. Insurers can refuse changes once a watch or a warning is up. Get medical care within 14 days after a crash so the PIP clock does not run out, and send us the claim number.

Car insurance in Hallandale Beach: common questions
I live in Broward and your office is in Miami-Dade. Can you still insure the car?
Yes. The license is statewide. Most Hallandale Beach clients never come in. We do not have a Broward office, and we do not pretend the Florida City office is local to the beach.
The car is garaged in Hallandale Beach but I work in Aventura. Which ZIP goes on the policy?
The ZIP where the car is kept overnight. Commuting into Miami-Dade does not move the garaging address. If you have moved the car across the county line, update the policy.
Does a foreign license keep me from buying a policy?
Not by itself, and it is not a guarantee either. Visitors drive on a valid foreign license. An International Driving Permit only translates it. After you are a Florida resident, the Florida license is due in 30 days, and registration needs a Florida policy. Send the documents. We will say whether a company will take the application. We will not promise that in advance.
Is uninsured motorist coverage required in Broward?
No. It must be offered with bodily injury liability and can be rejected only in writing. About one in five Florida drivers was uninsured in the 2023 estimate. Without BI, UM is generally unavailable.
How do I send the policy?
A photo of the declarations page to WhatsApp (971) 998-7313, by text or by email. An agent calls within an hour during business hours. The Florida City office is open by appointment, about 70 minutes away in light traffic.
